LATISSE was created to treat a person’s inability to grow eyelashes. It is available by prescription from a doctor.
If you feel that you are suffering from an inadequate growth in your eyelashes and are considering Latisse, here is some important info that you need to know:
At Face Toronto, we offer Latisse as an eyelash enhancer that can lengthen, thicken and darken eyelashes. Latisse contains Lumigan, which is the the active ingredient used to treat glaucoma. It was discovered glaucoma patients noticed that their eyelashes were growing longer, fuller and darker following their Lumigan treatments. It is not fully understood exactly how Latisse lengthens and improves eyelashes, but it seems to increase the length of time that your eyelashes are in a growth phase and therefore boost the number of hairs grown during this period.
However, these two drugs are absolutely different in a couple vital ways. Lumigan is an eyedrop, and Latisse gets dabbed along the upper eyelid lashes once a day. This is done with sterile applicators. There are 60 that are included with the product. These are the only appropriate applicators to use with Latisse. It is not recommended to use “re-use” applicators.
After your lashes have had time to grow for three to four months, you could maintain them by using the drug every other day. This should be consulted with your Latisse doctor before changing your regular treatment.
Latisse can have side effects like darkening of the skin around the eyelids and/or brown pigmentation of the colored part of the eye (which may permanent). There is also the possibility that it can cause hair growth in other skin areas on which it is applied. To avoid this from occurring, the manufacturer suggests blotting it off any skin other than the upper eyelids’ lash line.
Other side effects from Latisee can include red and/or itchy eyes as well as skin hyperpigmentation.
If you are taking antibiotics and heart medications, or have certain diseases or severe allergies , you may not be a candidate. Persons with skin infections of the upper eyelids should not use Latisse, nor should any pregnant women.
