Dr. Rui Han Liu is a Harvard-trained otolaryngologist–head & neck surgeon, fellowship-trained facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon at FACE Toronto. She brings a rare combination of elite academic training, meticulous surgical skill, and deep empathy for patient care to one of Toronto’s most distinguished facial plastic surgery centres.
FACE Toronto has always been defined by an uncompromising commitment to exceptional, natural-looking results. That standard is what brought Dr. Liu to pursue her American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery fellowship training here under Dr. Jamil Asaria, one of only two AAFPRS fellowship directors in facial plastic surgery in Canada. After completing her undergraduate studies at McGill University, Dr. Liu attended Johns Hopkins University Medical School, followed by a residency in Otolaryngology—Head & Neck Surgery at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary. Dr. Liu brings world-class credentials to every patient she sees in Toronto. Her training spans facial rejuvenation surgery, rhinoplasty, hair transplantation, and non-surgical aesthetic treatments, with a research portfolio published in leading peer-reviewed journals and recognized at major international conferences.
Dr. Liu's academic foundation reflects a lifetime of achievement at the highest levels of medicine.
She earned her Bachelor of Science in Cell Biology and Anatomy with Honors from McGill University, where she received numerous awards, including the Alexander Rutherford Scholarship, the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Undergraduate Research Award, and four years on the Dean's Honour List.
She went on to complete her MD at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, one of the most competitive and prestigious medical programs in the world. At Johns Hopkins, she received the Haskins K. Kashima, M.D. Prize in Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery and the Lawrence R. Katz Award in Thoracic Surgery, among other distinctions.
Following medical school, Dr. Liu was accepted into the Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery residency program at Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Eye and Ear in Boston, where she trained for five years. During her residency, she placed first in the Best Poster Contest at the American Academy of Facial Plastic Surgery Annual Meeting in 2024 and received third place at the AAFPRS Spring COSM Meeting in 2023.
She was then selected from 35 other candidates to pursue a fellowship at FACE Toronto in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery under Dr. Asaria. She completed in-depth training under the direct mentorship of Dr. Asaria in facelift, eyelid, rhinoplasty, chin augmentation, and the broad scope of surgical and non-surgical facial aesthetic procedures.
Following her formal training, Dr. Liu completed the Ponytail Lift endoscopic facelift course with Dr. Chia Chi Kao. This brings a novel, hidden-scar approach to facelift and mid-face lift surgery for patients in Canada. Additionally, Dr. Liu spent time with some of the leading plastic surgeons, facial plastic surgeons, and oculoplastic surgeons in Seoul, Korea to add to her repertoire of facelift, rhinoplasty, and eyelid surgery with a focus on advanced techniques for Asian patients.
Dr. Liu trained in the Division of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at the University of Toronto and is a member of the Canadian and American Academy of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
