Eyebrows are an important element in facial balance. They frame the eyes and lend expression to our emotional responses. Shaping the eyebrows is a simple matter of thinning excess volume for those with thick eyebrows. For those with thin or patchy eyebrows the solution isn’t so simple.
The use of powders and eyebrow pencils never achieve the three dimensional look that natural brows provide. Not only do they only fill in color, these cosmetic remedies need to be constantly replenished. Many men and women facing this challenge have discovered a simple and effective way of permanently achieving the sculpted, thick eyebrows they have been longing for eyebrow transplant surgery.

Eyebrow transplant surgery procedure
Dr. Asaria has been providing patients with world class hair transplants for many years at his Toronto clinic. Our Toronto eyebrow transplant surgery has become very popular as patients realize they can have thick expressive eyebrows by undergoing a simple outpatient surgery.
The procedure takes anywhere between 3 and 5 hours depending on the number of follicles needed to create the fullness and shape desired. An eyebrow transplant surgery begins with harvesting healthy hair follicles from the back of the scalp. This region is used because these follicles have the genetic programming to remain productive throughout life. Also, harvesting them from the back of the head is more discreet particularly for those who wear their hair medium to long length.
The scalp is shaved in the area to be harvested and then a small strip of tissue is taken. A local anesthetic is used to keep patients pain free during harvesting. Once the incision is closed, it is virtually invisible and heals quickly in a few days.
During this phase of an eyebrow transplant, patients are provided with an area to rest and catch up on email or work. Toronto is famous for the quality of the food and Dr. Asaria’s patients are served lunch from one of the many excellent restaurants in the area. This break is necessary for the meticulous preparation of hair follicles for implant. Each follicle must be very carefully isolated to ensure it will ‘take’ when implanted. This part of the procedure can take a few hours.
Once this has been done, the actual transplant surgery is started. Prior to this, patients will have shown Dr. Asaria photos illustrating what they are trying to achieve. This shape is drawn onto the eyebrow area so patients can verify that the size, shape and location are exactly as planned.
The transplant technique
Once the follicles are prepared, the patient is brought into treatment room where a local anesthetic is given. As this is a long procedure, patients can be given additional anesthetic if needed to ensure a pain free experience. Dr. Asaria implants each individual follicle into the area defined and outlined earlier.
This varies with every patient as some patients only require the replacement of patches of eyebrow hair while others require significant restoration. It is a painstaking procedure that requires a steady hand and the artistic perception needed to create graceful curving brows that fit the patient’s face.
Follicles need to be spaced properly and inserted at a slant as natural eyebrow hairs grow. Dr. Asaria is known for his patience and perfection in eyebrow transplant surgery and as a result is considered among the top hair transplant surgeons in Toronto.
Patients can leave the clinic immediately following the procedure which is one of the advantages of having local anesthetic. Any pain or discomfort can easily managed with either prescribed pain medication or over the counter remedies. A good quality cool gel type eye mask is also useful during the first few days.
Physical recovery takes about a week before patients are comfortable being seen in public. There will be some degree of swelling and bruising following surgery. This varies with each patient. A large brimmed hat and sunglasses can be an effective way of running errands while recovering.
The transplant area will be scabbed for several days and patients are advised not to disturb the area, nor to clean the area vigorously to allow the follicles to establish blood flow. Patients must keep the area out of the sun as well.
After a few weeks the hair will fall out of the transplant area which is normal. The new hair will begin to grow in over the next few months. The final result is permanent unless there is a medical condition that causes hair loss. No more eyebrow powders, pencils or thin eyebrows ever.
Eyebrow transplant patients will need to trim the hair to maintain the shape and fullness of natural eyebrows. The transplanted follicles will grow constantly as they would in their original location, but this grooming is considered a small price to pay for luxurious, eyebrows that eliminate the need to daily recreate eyebrows that never look natural.
