All hair transplantation techniques work on the same basic principle and method. To begin, healthy, bald-resistive follicles are harvested from the back or sides of the head (called the donor site). Next, very small micro-incisions are made in the thinning areas where more hair is desired (called the recipient site). The harvested follicles (called grafts) are then carefully embedded into the incisions. Typically, more than 95% of the transplanted hair follicles will take root, acting as a permanent and completely natural replacement for lost hair.

Yes. Hair restoration or transplant surgery is the only permanent method of treating hair loss.

We always recommend that patients seeking treatment for hair loss try other proven methods of non-surgical treatment before considering surgery. Similarly, for those experiencing early thinning, we highly recommend prevention strategies ahead of transplant surgery, but for those who have reached irreversible stages of hair loss or who simply want a complete and permanent solution, hair restoration surgery is the best treatment possible.

Yes. With modern hair restoration techniques it is possible to obtain results that look convincingly natural. The key is in the surgeon's technique, their attention to detail and their understanding of how to create a hairline that is natural to your face.

Not everyone is a good candidate for hair restoration surgery. The procedure is typically best suited for the following types of patients:

• Men who have experienced hair loss as a result of Male Pattern Baldness for a period of five years or more.
• Men who have progressed to a Class 3 or above on the Norwood Scale of Male Pattern Baldness.
• Men experiencing hair loss that is progressing despite the use of prescription drugs.

FUE (which stands for Follicular Unit Extraction) is a popular and proven hair restoration technique. It varies from the standard strip method of hair restoration (also known as FUT or Follicular Unit Transplantation) in the method used to harvest healthy hair follicles.

The primary different between FUE and FUT lies in the method of extraction. In FUE, grafts are removed one at a time with out the use of a scalpel. Conversely FUT requires an incision to remove a strip of hair-bearing scalp, which is dissected to harvest healthy follicles.

Here are FACE Cosmetic Surgery, we typically recommend FUE as the best technique for hair restoration however, each patient is different and there are sometimes reasons that a patient may be better suited for FUT hair transplant.

FUE has a number of significant advantages as compared to FUT. These include:

• No larges incision, stitches or scars
• Faster recovery and little or no down time
• No restriction of movement after surgery (typically with FUT, the healing process requires patients to refrain from heavy athletic activity)
• Allows patients the option of wearing their hair short on the sides and back (no scar to hide)

FUE is a time-consuming and tedious process. Because of this, patients have to consider the following potential disadvantages:

• Longer procedure time is required for the same number of grafts as compared to the FUT/strip technique.
• Higher cost of procedure as compared to FUT/strip technique

No. Neograft is an automated method of harvesting hair follicles for FUE transplant surgery. Using a power-assisted technique, Dr Asaria harvests follicles one-by-one. This is a key aspect to Dr. Asaria’s FUE approach. In contrast to the Neograft method, the manually extracted grafts are handled with extreme care and there is minimal trauma to the hair follicles. This greatly improves the survival rate of the newly transplanted grafts.

Yes. When sutured properly, a FUT hair transplant will leave only a hairline scar that is difficult to see once the surrounding hair grows longer, however there are cases where the surgeon fails to accomplish this. In these cases FUE is often used to hide or camouflage the visible scar.

Each patient's surgery is different. Procedure time varies significantly depending upon the individual needs of the patient. Some patients are only seeking to address a small area of receding hair, whereas others may be require a full fill in. Depending upon the amount of grafts to be transplanted, the surgery can be over in as few as three hours or last as many as to eight or nine hours.

Dr. Asaria believes in taking his time to get best results possible. That's why he dedicates himself to performing only one hair transplantation surgery per day.

With FUE patients typically experience no down time and are fully recovered within a week. FUT hair transplant surgery may require two to three days of recovery before the patient can resume work and normal activities. FUT also has an average full recovery time of about three weeks.

Mild sedatives and local anesthetic are used to make the procedure as comfortable possible. Most patients report minimal discomfort.

The transplanted hair follicles usually go into a dormant state for a short period after the surgery before they begin growing new hair. They typically begin to produce new hair after three or four months. You can expect to see a noticeable cosmetic difference within a period of nine to twelve months.

In the majority of cases hair restoration surgery is permanent, with the transplanted follicles producing hair for the rest of the patient's life.
